How long does an Amazon refund take?
Usually a few business days after the carrier scans your return, though the money can take longer than that to appear on a card statement because your bank adds its own processing time.
Two clocks, not one
Amazon issues the refund, then your bank posts it. Those are separate steps with separate timings, which is why the email saying the refund was issued often arrives days before the money shows up.
Refunds to gift card balance are typically the fastest because no bank is involved.
If it is late
- Check the carrier tracking on the return itself. The refund clock usually starts at the first scan, not at drop-off.
- Look at the order's return status page before contacting anyone. It normally states which step you are on.
- Keep the drop-off receipt or QR confirmation until the money lands. It is the only proof the item left your hands.
