Can I return an opened item to Amazon?

Yes for most things: opening a package does not void an Amazon return, as long as the item is complete and in resellable condition and you are still inside the return window.

Opened is not the same as used up

You are allowed to open a box to see whether the thing fits, works, or is what you expected. That is the point of a return window. What matters is whether the item can be sold again: all parts present, no damage you caused, no missing accessories.

Where opening does end it

  • Software, digital downloads, and redeemed codes.
  • Hygiene and personal-care items once the seal is broken.
  • Groceries and anything perishable.
  • Items from third-party sellers whose own terms say sealed only.

Protect yourself before you send it

Put every cable, manual, and accessory back in, and take photos of the item and the packed parcel. Partial refunds for condition are the single most common complaint about returns, and photos taken before it left your hands are what settles them.

Check your own deadline
