Can I return something to Amazon after 30 days?
Usually no, but it is worth trying anyway: the standard window is 30 days from delivery, and Amazon can still make an exception through customer service, especially if the item arrived faulty or was bought as a gift in the holiday period.
Why the window is already closed
Amazon's standard return window runs from the delivery date, not the order date. If you ordered on the 1st and it landed on the 5th, your clock started on the 5th. That difference is enough to push a lot of people one or two days past the line without realising it.
Once the window closes, the self-service return button in Your Orders normally disappears. That does not always mean the answer is final.
What still works after the window
- A faulty or broken item is a different conversation from a change of mind. Manufacturer warranties often run far longer than the return window.
- Contact customer service in writing and describe the problem rather than asking for a favour. Exceptions are more likely when there is a defect involved.
- Holiday purchases often have a longer window than the standard one, so check the extended dates before assuming you are late.
- If the item was sold by a third-party seller, message the seller directly. Their terms are separate from Amazon's.
If the answer is no
Selling the item on is often worth more than the hassle of pushing further, particularly for electronics that hold value. Some credit cards also include extended return protection that refunds you when the retailer will not, so it is worth checking the benefits guide for the card you paid with.
