Can I return something to Walmart without a receipt?
Often yes: Walmart can look up many purchases from the card you paid with or your online account, and where no record exists at all you may still be offered an exchange or store credit rather than a cash refund.
You probably have a receipt without knowing
- Paid by card: the service desk can usually look the purchase up from that card.
- Ordered online or used the app: the order is in your account history.
- Used a digital wallet: the transaction record in the app often has what is needed.
When there is genuinely no record
A cash purchase with a lost paper receipt is the hard case. Expect the outcome to be an exchange or store credit at the item's current price rather than money back, and expect it to need a photo ID. There are limits on how many no-receipt returns one person can make, which exist to stop resale fraud rather than to catch ordinary shoppers.
Make the next one easier
Photograph paper receipts the moment you get them, or pay with a card you can look up later. It takes three seconds and removes the entire problem.
